M&M’s is a brand created in 1935 by Forrest Mars and Bruce Murrie. The aim was to create chocolate candies that don’t melt in your hands like the others. To be recognized, they decided that the letter “M” would appear on each of the candy.
At the beginning, these candies were not commercialized but given during the Second World War to the soldiers. Then, they commercialized them in 1941.
The two mascots Yellow and Red were created in 1954, but the ones we know today were created by the agency BBDO in 1971 to represent the brand. They represent the famous duos of the cinema as Laurel and Hardy.
The M&M’s are introduced in France in 1975 without colors and then with colors around the 80’s. In 1995, the Red and Yellow were present in all the kinds of advertisement.
From 1997, they started to create other mascots with Mrs Green. Now, you have 6 of them: yellow, red, green, blue, orange and brown.
The brand launched in 2004 the website mymms, to allow customers to personalize their own M&M’s with 17 colors of M&M’s Milk Chocolate Candies.
The products that you can find in France are: Peanuts, Milk Chocolate, Crispy, Dark chocolate and in some selective point of sales Peanuts butter, Almond or Bretzel. They are produced in Haguenau in Alsace.

400 000 000 of M&M’s are produced per day in the world!
